The 'Empty Quarter, the Rub Al-Khali in Arabic, il Quarto Vuoto in Italian, is the largest sand desert in the world. It covers an area equal to that of Belgium, France and the Netherlands put together and is uninhabited, uninhabitable and largely unexplored. The oil companies themselves have not been able to explore it all. The same Bedouin will address only the outer edges. The height of the dunes can reach that of the Eiffel Tower. It is long 1200 km and wide 600 km. Arabic literature for the Empty Quarter is a real legend, because we know that Arabic poetry was born as poems handed down orally long time before the advent of Islam. Then the writing became a kind of epic popular, and in one of these epics include the story, where the protagonist tried to cross the Empty Quarter  trying to recover the dowry for his brideand. But this was quite impossible all of his comrades died. He remained alone and trapped in quicksand and thanks only to his skill and his heroism to his godlike body  that was able to overcome this difficult test. There are many other quotations that tell us of missing persons and the Bedouin to cross the Empty Quarter is atrip with no return, for this reason they try to go around for not venturing inside. There is talk of high dunes, where the sands change immediately his  colour, they say about moving sands, they say  equal the Bermuda Triangle, but in version even more mysterious and dangerous.

The Bedouins themselves without an experienced guide do not dare to cross even a portion of this desert. The legends are many, incalculable. Starting from the pre-Islamic to this day. Even in these days we read, magazines, reviews, studies of Arabic newspapers and magazines. We can say that the ultimate and unique attempt  that tried to cross the Empty Quarter in 2005 was done by researchers from Saudi, Egypt, USA , Swiss and Germany trying to cross it with a technologically advanced equipment as well as cars that then broken themselves. They covered a total of about three thousand miles to try to discover for the first time the treasures of the Empty Quarter. We talk about areas that contain waterfalls, one speaks of a small lake, we talk, even beyond the dunes, over the quicksand, residential areas, but this remains in the outer limits of the Empty Quarter, but not in it. Difficult if not impossible to cross. We speak of a large surface area such as France, Belgium and The Netherlands combined, so there may be areas rich in water, and other completely free of water and therefore impossible to cross. From this research, however, is that today it seems impossible to 'human being equipped with cars and high-tech means, resist and survive the Empty Quarter. The heat in a few hours of the day comes to very high temperatures, accompanied by strong wind and sand that moves from one area to another on the dunes as tall as the Eiffel Tower. You have to know  that the shipment of 32 experts, in 2005, were accompanied by guides, drivers, doctors, so I finally got to 89 people who had to assist these 32 people. The largest sand desert in the world has become impossible for them to cross. To be able to cross this desert must still be a real human machine can endure thirst, hunger, sleep and walk these 1200 kilometers, surpassing these dunes, these areas where the heat of the day is unbearable..
